Supports handle encrypted SQLite databases which are encrypted by SQLCipher library. MySQL Workbench is available on Windows, Linux and Mac OS X.Add an operator SQL to Data Editors filter feature. MySQL Workbench provides data modeling, SQL development, and comprehensive administration tools for server configuration, user administration, backup, and much more. MySQL Workbench is a unified visual tool for database architects, developers, and DBAs.You'll also need a plain text editor. The SQLiteStudio package includes the database system along with a management system, and we'll install this later in this lesson. SQLite is a simple compact standards-compatible database management system, that's easy to install and cross-platform compatible. You'll need a compatible database system. In order to follow along with the exercises there's a few things you'll need.
Unfortunately the TextEdit program that ships with macOS doesn't work well for this purpose either and so for the Mac I suggest BBEdit. The formatting information will actually interfere with SQL code in this example files, so a word processor will not work for this purpose. A word processor is designed for writing documents and includes a lot of formatting information along with the text. Sql Editor Free Edition WillAnd I've already saved the download on my desktop. Now let's install SQLiteStudio. I've already installed it on this Mac, and there it is, BBEdit, and there it is opened with some SQL in it. You may install it from the App Store here. The free edition will do everything you need for the purposes of this course. It's available in both free and paid editions. Now it's installed and I'm going to select Run here, and say Done, and when it runs, the first thing it does is it asks me to choose a language. Everything here is selected and it's fine, it's more than what we need but it works fine, it doesn't take up a lot of space on the drive so I'll just hit continue, with all of the defaults, and select Install. And now we get a installation wizard, and we hit Continue, and we just accept the defaults here. So I actually have to Control + Click, and say Open, and then it gives me the opportunity to open this. And inside there you see the InstallSQLiteStudio app, so I just double-click on that, and you notice that it doesn't give me the opportunity to actually install it, because it's not signed. I'll move it just after my Google Chrome there, and now when I close it, it'll come right back up. The way you get to keep something in your dock is you simply just move it, and so I'm going to move it over here. Now you'll notice that because it's running it shows up here in the dock, but if I close it, it will go away. Now here under Look & Feel, and Fonts, I'm just going to make all these fonts bigger. I'm willing to go ahead now and run SQLite Studio from my dock, and I'm going to immediately go to preferences, so I can select SQLiteStudio, Preferences, or I can press Command + Comma, which is universal for most Mac programs. And then you can throw this in the trash, or you can save it or do whatever you like with it. So I'm going to press Command + Q on my keyboard, and then I'm going to eject the installer DMG file here. For your purposes, you probably don't need to do much of this at all, and I'll say OK, and now we have our SQLiteStudio. For my purposes because I have limited screen space, and because we want to make these courses compatible with a lot of different sizes of screens, this is the way that I do this, is I just make everything in size 16. Now this is going to make it all look pretty big. And I'm going to say OK there, in the 16 size, and then for each of these, I'm just going to increase the size to 16. It's a proprietary font for the purpose of displaying on these screens. But I'm going to go ahead here and under my Favorites I have something called Calynda, which you probably don't have. And I'm going to install the database. So I'm going to come here to Database menu and add a database or I can press Command + O, that's the letter O, not a zero. And we're going to go ahead and install some databases. Microsoft office 365 2016 for mac software keyYou notice this is new in the latest version of macOS. I've stored my exercise files on the desktop. I'm going to install databases from our exercise files. And there's our first database. So there it lists the location of the file, and the name for the list, and we're just going to keep all of these defaults and Permanent checked, and I'm going to say OK. So I'll simply open the first one. Db files, album, test, and world. I'm going to come over here to our Exercise Files, and under the db folder, you see there's three. If I press okay here, you notice that it goes ahead and populates it. Sometimes after you select it, it won't show them, and that's okay. Now, there's a little bug here in SQLiteStudio. ![]() ![]() So if all of this worked as expected, you have now installed the SQLiteStudio application, and you may continue in the next chapter. For our purposes we're going to be using the Query view and the Grid view. There's a Form view here, but that's not really useful for our purposes. Now I'm going to leave this in Grid view.
